Office 2016 To Be Launched Later This Year By Microsoft

Microsoft announced Windows 10 these past few days with a bucket-load of energizing and stimulating features, but the company isn’t finished yet. Microsoft has also announced that its next version of Microsoft Office, it’s suite of office productivity applications (Word/Excel/PowerPoint), aptly being named “Office 2016.”

Microsoft has been internally testing the latest version of MS Office or Microsoft Office with a few of its distinguished partners. Many images leaked late last year suggesting that the new release would not change the tried and trusted in terms of design aesthetics, but customers would be able to see new and updated features and overall improvements.

Microsoft has said that it will share more on Office 2016 productivity suite of office applications in the forthcoming months. This statement confirms the company’s previous promise of launching new applications in the later-part of 2015. This incidentally coincides with the launch of Microsoft’s latest operating system, Windows 10, which is also expected to be launched at about the same time.

Although Microsoft has not publicly shown off its new Office 2016 productivity suite of office applications, the company did unveil touch-friendly Office applications for Windows and Android. These applications would be made available on Windows 10 desktops / notebooks / smartphones / tablets. Microsoft has shared some images of its Office touch applications for Windows 10. From the images, users will be able to see how these touch-friendly Office applications will look on smartphones and/or tablets and other devices with bigger displays or screens.

Place Tips in News Feed, Location-Based Services Dead

Facebook has just revealed a new feature in its News Feed, which is called “Place Tips.” This new feature is squarely targeted at Yelp, one of the many location-based recommendation applications. Basically, Facebook is re-arranging a business’s FB page into a location-based advance reminder including activities / posts / photos from your friend’s list.

The concept of “Place Tips” is just simply simple. When Facebook thinks you are near a public location, convenient store, or a popular restaurant, you will receive a pink notification in your News Feed. When you go ahead and click the pink notification, you will be able to sort through the available notification cards, which detail everything. These cards will be of reviews, posts, and photos from people in your friend lists who’ve visited that particular location previously.

The “Place Tips” Facebook feature is on by default. If you don’t feel up to it, you can turn it off from the “Location” settings. Facebook has said that when you tap on “Place Tips,” it will not post to Facebook or give your current location to anyone. On the other hand, “Place Tips” will keep a track of your location using Wi-Fi and GPS unless you turn it off.

Facebook is in the process of also testing out Bluetooth-based beacons for providing offline notifications at certain locations or shops. Place Tips is a curious app thingy in that it is not an actual Android/iOS application, but a feature within the respective Android/iOS Facebook application.

Although Facebook did not have any issues separating Groups and Messenger into separate Android/iOS Facebook applications, the company has now realized that more people will use this new feature if it is bundled into Android/iOS Facebook application.

Considering the current users of Facebook this is a sound strategy. If you recollect, Facebook’s Paper application was an utter disaster for regrouping Facebook into news-centric set-up. Even after that, Facebook went ahead and presented trending “news stories/clippings” on the main page, people began to like and research it. Facebook is now becoming or turning into a personalized newspaper of sorts.

This is why introducing “Place Tips” makes a lot of sense for Facebook. As luck would have it, users of an Android/iOS application don’t like switching in-between apps. Making “Place Tips” a separate app will result it in directly competing against forerunners Foursquare, Gowalla, Groupon, Google Places, SCVNGR, Yelp, Shopkick, Loopt, Open table, Fandango, Vouchercloud, NearbyFeed, GetGlue, Google Latitude, Where, Facebook Places, Urbanspoon, Sonar, Geoloqi, and Instagram. These are just some of the popular Android/iOS applications.

By using this strategy, Facebook users can test this new feature without installing another app on their devices. With this move, Facebook has ensures that it would be able to siphon-off some Foursquare, Gowalla, Groupon, Google Places, SCVNGR, Yelp, Shopkick, Loopt, Open table, Fandango, Vouchercloud, NearbyFeed, GetGlue, Google Latitude, Where, Facebook Places, Urbanspoon, Sonar, Geoloqi, and Instagram users who are also using Facebook on their devices.

At present, high-traffic areas like the Brooklyn Bridge, Central Park, the Statue of Liberty, Times Square, and JFK Airport is where Place Tips is currently being implemented on a test phase with a worldwide rollout at a later date.

Mark the Date: May 3, 2015, Pan-India MNP

TRAI has gone ahead and issued a fresh draft of regulations regarding the Nationwide Mobile Number Portability (MNP), by which all and any telecom user will be able to switch their telecommunications carrier without the need to change their current numbers.

Currently, users of telecommunications services in a particular circle were allowed to use Mobile Number Portability services. A telecommunications circle is actually the state the respective customer is currently in. In reality, a user from Kerala or Tamilnadu could only switch telecommunication service companies in Kerala or Tamilnadu only. Now, we have news that after May 3, 2015, users would be able to travel to any state within India and switch his and/or her telecommunications company without the need for changing his and/or her number.

TRAI has introduced this feature as the 6th Amendment to the telecommunications law. This process actually started in the year 2009. In the last amendment, TRAI had suggested major changes and regulatory guidelines, which laid the foundation for the current draft base. A crucial point of discussion related to post-paid customers. The post-paid customers who had even paid their full dues were liable to have their services disconnected when they changed carriers. This issue has been addressed in the current draft.

Also, TRAI has fixed a deadline for MNP, and has set the standards and protocols to be adhered. TRAI has requested people to provide their comments and feedback, which it deems valuable, on the current draft on or before February 6, 2015.

Pictures Of HTC’s Next Flagship “Hima” Leak

Since the launch of HTC’s flagship, HTC One, HTC has been gaining ground in the smartphone market. HTC’s previous smartphones were called HTC One (M7/M8). And as is with every new year, one would expect that the smartphone manufacturers will keep the naming convention somewhat numbered. We were expecting that the latest smartphone from HTC would be called the M9, but it seems that this is not the case. HTC is rumored to be going with a different name. It is being called the “Hima.”

While this is to be seen and confirmed by HTC, you can, in the meantime, look at the supposedly leaked pictures of the HTC “Hima” Android smartphone. HTC is expected to adhere to its previous metal builds, which made the HTC One (M7 & M8) wildly popular. These leaked pictures corroborate the metal build and big display on the front that we’re conversant with already.

HTC’s Duo Camera is visible on the backside in the leaks. We had heard rumors that HTC was ditching this in favor of a 20.7 MP camera setup. We believe either one of the following to be true – 1) the rumors are not true, or 2) these leaked snapshots are not of HTC’s next flagship smartphone.

Intex is in the festive mood, and has gone ahead and launched its latest Aqua series smartphone in the Indian market – the Intex Aqua V2. The Intex Aqua V2 Android KitKat smartphone is powered by a 1 GHz Spreadtrum SC7715 processor and supports dual-SIM functionality. On the graphics and gaming front, the Intex Aqua V2 Android KitKat smartphone has 256 MB RAM and 512 MB of internal memory.

The Intex Aqua V2 runs on Google’s Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system and has a 3.5” HVGA touchscreen supporting a resolution of 320 x 480 pixels. As have previously read, we’ve brought you newsabout Micromax it’s releasing its YU branded Yureka smartphone. The flash sale will be held on January 13, 2015 at 2 PM.

The email is going out to people who have already registered, or subscribe to Amazon’s Yureka smartphone reminders. If you have not done so, you can login to your Amazon (India/international) account and subscribe or register (both are the same).

Micromax has launched a stellar smartphone in the YU branded Yureka mobile phone. Micromax has done something that other manufacturers wouldn’t think about. In doing so, they have now become the most loved smartphone in India. Micromax is going ahead and taking on the leading smartphone manufacturers head on.

When you see the specifications of the Micromax YU branded Yureka smartphone, you see that it is one, which has powerful specifications. Many tech websites have given their positive views on this smartphone. Indeed, the Micromax YU branded Yureka smartphone deserves all praise as the balance between price/functionality/looks has been maintained in an appropriate manner.

Amazon, as previously stated, has been sending out reminder emails of the flash sale. The partnership between Micromax/Amazon/CyanogenMod has resulted in one good looking and powerful specifications. Indian users have now been treated to one of the best smartphones on the market with one of the best specifications that you can buy at an affordable price.

Current Scenario

Now, this is definitely going to give the mobile market in much needed rejig and a good shakeup. Though there are some Indian smartphones which have good specifications, the main thing is that they’re priced above Rs. 10,000/-.

Online Retail

Over the past few months, we have seen various manufacturers collaborating with various online retail stores to release smartphones in the Indian market. The main thing is that these smartphone manufacturers want to capture the Indian mobile market, which is second or third (based on whomever you ask) after China and the US. In terms of volume of the number of users having smartphones, it is the second after China. In terms of the number of people online on mobile devices, it is third after China and the US.

The most collaborative effort has been done with Flipkart who has seen various leading mobile manufacturers collaborate with them to release their latest smartphones. We have also heard news about funding rounds going on to raise capital for expansion in various verticals.

Xiaomi has been on a roll here, in India, with its recent success of Redmi 1S and the Redmi Note. Both smartphones have been successful in capturing their respective markets in their respective categories.

The positive thing about Xiaomi is that they have been releasing Android OS based smartphones at affordable prices with high-end hardware. This has resulted in Xiaomi taking the leading position in China, dethroning #Apple & #Samsung. Xiaomi has been always known as the poor man’s Apple.

We today bring you news about the impending release of the Xiaomi Redmi 2S. Recently, the Xiaomi Redmi 2S smartphone was spotted at TENAA and has since received certification in China. Also, the Xiaomi Redmi 2S smartphone scores were spotted on AnTuTu Benchmark.

Below are the leaked specifications of the Xiaomi Redmi 2S.

As you can see from the above specifications, most of the specifications are just average and even in some cases, lower. For example, the processor has been downgraded to a 1.2 GHz 64-bit from a 1.7 GHz one. Also, the Xiaomi Redmi 2S is a single SIM smartphone and the Xiaomi Redmi 1S is a dual SIM smartphone.

So, we do have some positives and some negatives with these specifications, but on the whole, the Xiaomi Redmi 2S is an average smart phone.

Conclusion

Our recommendation would be that our readers look for something else, unless this smartphone is priced below Rs. 4,000/- in India. If it is going to be priced at the same price of the Xiaomi Redmi 1S, then this would be a smartphone that can be given a miss for others in the market.
